The Illustrious Career of Saku Koivu

Saku Koivu began his hockey journey in Finland, developing his skills in the TPS Turku system. His exceptional playmaking abilities quickly garnered attention, leading to his selection by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. After several seasons in Finland, Koivu joined the Canadiens in 1995 and quickly established himself as a key player. He was named captain in 1999, a role he held for ten seasons, becoming a beloved figure in Montreal. His career was interrupted by a battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which he bravely fought and overcame, returning to the ice to continue his career.
